Why Are You Even Working Out?

Why Are You Even Working Out?

I mean seriously. Why Are You Even Working Out?

Have you asked yourself that question? Why Are You Even Working Out? Several important factors to consider if you want to workout.

Why are you working out? Or considering working out. What is your goal? What do you want to look like? What are you trying to gain or accomplish? Do you want to feel better?

  • Maybe you just want to train for an event; a Tough Mudder type, a 5K, a marathon or you want to succeed in a sport.
  • Perhaps you just want to get swole, lose weight, maybe just get strong, give your system a boost or look good naked.
  • Or are you chasing Zyzz-like aesthetics? I cant think of any bad reasons to work out.

What is your motivation?

Mindset

Realize that in your mind, you set your own limitations. There are no limits. For the most part. Recognize that no matter how out of shape you are you can get fitter than you are right now.

Also be aware of your body type. No that doesn’t mean, “am I a fat ass or skinny”.  Its more along the lines of, “are you an Ectomorph, Endomorph or Mesomorph?” What?!  I promise this is as technical as I will get in this post. Those are not the names of 3 types of dinosaurs or Transformers. Its the 3 different body types. You could be a little of more than one type but most likely fall into a particular type.

Take the body type test from bodybuilding.com to find out your body type but promise to come back to this page.

Why Are You Even Working Out?

Some suggest you work out according to your body type as you can see in this article from Coachmag.co.uk. Makes some sense, its like when people say, “you are tall so play basketball, wide neck play football or Rugby, short stocky perfect for wrestling”. None of these should stop you from wanting to achieve your fitness goals. My point only being, there are certain physical limitations. If you are short and have a wide collar you will never look like Brad Pitt in Fight Club or Zac Effron in Baywatch. Yet you might aspire for Mark Whalberg or The Rock (if he was short) physique. Short, tall, wide or narrow, it doesn’t matter you can get fit and build muscle. Bruce Lee was 5’7″ and his body has been the inspiration of millions. Floyd Mayweather is 5’8″ and he looks like a beast when hes on TV or on a billboard. By the way, if you were impressed by Zac Effron’s physique in Baywatch surely enjoy this article from Buzzfeed.com .

It is great to have a physical goal, an image of what you wish to look like, in mind. That might just be what keeps you motivated. Like a Vision Board but for fitness. But remember to enjoy the ride. Embrace the suck. If you hate working out from the get go, give it some time. you will most likely end up addicted and loving it. Not a bad addiction (as long as you are not hurting yourself or anyone else). Just keep working out. Make it a part of you life. Maybe you need to get the “working” part out of the equation. Don’t think of it as “chore/task you have to do”. Simply think of it as something “you do”.  Just like anything you set out to do in life, its a journey. Enjoy it. Mindset.
